Makers of Sweden: connecting Sweden's makerspaces
Co-founding a national organisation to help Sweden's makerspaces find one another, share experience and make the maker movement easier to discover.
I co-founded Makers of Sweden to connect the people building makerspaces around the country. Every space had its own local circumstances, but they had good reasons to talk to each other: to share experience, to be easier to find, and to explain what maker culture could offer.
In May 2014, Filippa Malmegård and I introduced Makers of Sweden in an early post. We wanted somewhere makerspaces could tell their stories and share ideas and tools, and where curious people could find a space near them to get involved.
I was on the board from 2014 to 2016 and again from 2017 to 2019. Bringing independent spaces together meant working out, with the people running them, what a national organisation could actually do for them.
